Leh Trip June 2011– Prologue

This is going to be a short travelogue or I could say more of a pictorial logue as I did not take notes of travelling distances, timings etc.

The preparations for the trip started just a few days prior to departure. The trip earlier proposed was that we would go to the rally of The Mugal Road which was being organised by Himalayan Motorsports from Srinagar to Jammu and back to Srinagar in the last week of June 2011. At first there was no plan whatsoever of going to Leh. But then we guys thought that as were are already going approx 900kms from Delhi why not touch base at Leh. So naturally we decided that we would go to the rally (as spectators) spend 3-4 days in Srinagar and then accompanied by 2 or 3 more vehicles make the return trip via Kargil, Leh, Manali and back to Delhi. As they say plans are meant to be broken one thing led to the other and before we knew it we guys decided that we would ditch the rally do the trip as most of the travellers do it.

Delhi –> Manali –> Leh –> Srinagar –> Delhi

The original departure date was fixed as the 24th morning which was preponed to the night of 23rd of June. The reason for the same was we would avoid all the traffic bottlenecks from Panipat to Chandigarh and by the time the first light of the day hits, we would already be on the hills.

We were 4 guys who were travelling from Delhi till Leh and another friend would be joining us in Leh to do the remainder of the trip.

Shashank Sekhar

Arjun Dhar

Inder Sangha (joining us in Leh)

and yours truly Harjeev Singh Chadha

The vehicle in question was my Toyota Landcruiser (still haven’t decided a name for the vehicle as yet).

Now 5 guys meant lots of luggage and to top it we guys needed extra fuel for the Tandi to Leh section too as there’s no fuel station in that 350 kms section. So the vehicles was mounted with the roof rack where we decided that we would place the jerry cans 2 nos of 40Ltrs each.

All preparations in full swing and we were ready to leave at 11PM from Delhi.

Finally I leave you guys a picture that I’d taken from my phone camera during the trip.

      Hi Manish,
Thanks for patronising my blog. The Fauzi part (well I would not be able to post that) you might understand due to obvious reasons. But the complete report is surely coming up in due time.
      Cheers mate

      Thanks Nilgiri,
Buddy you know the thing is that I am very eager to take pictures but am very lethargic and lazy when it comes to post travelogues. So what I’ve done is post a day by day account this was atleast the travelogue will be on the blog, but the negative side is, it will take time. If I wait for the complete travelogue to finish, I know myself it might never happen.
      Thanks for understanding.
      Cheers
