Videos of Off-Roading over the Years

January 18, 2013 2 comments

Hey Guys,

Its already a bit late by nevertheless its never too to share greetings ‘Wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous new year’. I’ve been guilty of being lazy, infact quite lazy with updating this blog so here I am starting this year with sharing some videos of off-roading.

This first video is my decent from Rohtang Pass. This was taken in Sept’12 on my drive from Kaza to Manali. As can be seen from the video, its nothing short of being termed as off-road gauging from the terrain, the slush, etc.

I started Off-Roading way back in December 2008. Infact I shared this in my 1st blog post

Harjeev’s M&M MM550 XD 4×4- The making of an Off-Roader

IMG_7938Since that time I must have taken hundreds infact thousands of pictures through the years. Most of these pictures are on my hard drive, just sitting there. So I thought, what would it be like to share these with everyone. However the problem was that no one in the world has neither the time nor the patience to sit and see 6500 pictures, atleast I don’t. So getting the clue from time-lapse branch of photography, I started to experiment on converting these images into a short video.

Some details of the enclosed video

  • 6258 Total number of pictures
  • Used Lightroom to merge the images together
  • Frame Rate per Sec(FPS) 10
  • Length of the video 10:26Mins (6258 Images @ 10fps= 626sec or 10 mins & 25.8 sec
  • Music from Youtube Voyage- Sorena2009- Instrumental
  • The video in HD of 720p. So please change the quality from the menu in Youtube

The resultant video looks a bit fast however this is my first experiment with combining images together. Will be uploading more videos in future with lower frame rate and shorter length of 2-3mins each.

The following is a short video taken on 12th of Jan’2013. This again is a set images and compiled @ 3.33 FPS. For best quality, after you hit Play, click on the sprocket wheel in the bottom right, and choose 720HD.

Finally the Gypsy come’s home

June 6, 2011 13 comments

I bought the vehicle (if it could be called a vehicle, as the state it was in) in the 1st week of December 2010. This was exactly 6 months after I sold my 2006 MPFI Gypsy last June. When I sold the gypsy in June I thought that I wouldn’t buy another one, Ever. And this is when I remember being told by a friend “Bappe, Whatever you do, I know that you would buy a Gypsy in the next 6 months”. Its believed that predictions don’t come true, but in my case, it surely did. Now 6 months after I bought this vehicle, which WAS, as friends termed it, “A RUST BUCKET” now stands totally transformed.

Gypsy WIP–II (work in progress)

April 21, 2011 2 comments

Continuing with the previous post

Now that the engine + Gearbox + Transfer case had been sourced, time had come to pay attention to the body or as many of my friends had begin to call it “The Rust Bucket”.

I was even suggested to replace the whole body tub, but I wanted to restore this vehicle only. I believe that anything with metal can be put back together and I would definitely try with this one. From the past couple of post I have been repeating myself that the body was very rusted and that there are holes in the tubs, etc etc.

Here are pictures of the body tub

WIP update

April 19, 2011 2 comments

Hey Guys,

Something or the other has been keeping me busy over the previous week, so I couldn’t update the progress of the Gypsy . This doesn’t mean that work is not going on. On the contrary work is progressing on the vehicle at a brisk pace and I am glad to say that slowly and gradually the delivery date is inching closer.

Anyways without further delay over the course of the next couple of posts I would update the status of the vehicle and bring the thread up to date. Also the future posts would be more of pictures and small narrations as I have already written briefly on the work that I plan to do on the vehicle in this post

Maruti Gypsy– So it begins…

April 1, 2011 5 comments

So finally after a long long pause I am back again and this time I would try to finish the gypsy post soon and try to bring it upto date as soon as possible.

Now that I had bought the vehicle and it had been transported to the workshop (Auto Attitudes) the time had come to decide on the package I wanted for my vehicle, the way I wanted it to be restored, the color scheme, the performance package, etc etc etc. Now this wasn’t as easy as it sounds. I was like standing at crossroads and talking to many people and everyone had their own advise. Someone told me to keep it stock as a MG410, while others told me that I should convert it to a MG413 carburetor. I also got advise to go for a complete Baleno setup or maybe even a bigger one.

Anyways to cut a long story short the following was decided

Finally the Gypsy becomes mine, AGAIN….

February 9, 2011 4 comments

So continuing from the previous post,

I finally decided to go ahead and buy the vehicle, well that’s if one could call it a vehicle. Its more of a collection of rusted metal, on 4 pieces of rubber held to the body with bolts.

Still excited as I ever was I made my decision of buying this vehicle. The reason that I took this decision was

  • It was available cheap
  • It was a Delhi registered, well Faridabad registered vehicle
  • A cheap and basic vehicle gave me a good base to start and experiment on.
  • Most important of all THE VEHICLE IS IN MY NAME AND I AM THE 1ST OWNER

What have I got myself into This time???

      February 4, 2011 5 comments

      Hey Guys,

Again I ask myself What have I got myself into THIS TIME?

And this is exactly the kind of question that my family members, friends, neighbors, near and dear ones must be asking themselves. Seriously, what is this guy upto???

      • First he craves for something (Obviously amongst many things, I am talking in context of a vehicle) 😉
      • Then he goes ahead and buys it,
      • Then, spends his time and dough in bringing it up to shape
      • Later on, as everyone expects, uses it for some time, AND
      • Finally which no one expects or for that matter used to expect, SELLS IT OFF and the circle starts all over again
